The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway is the heart of cycling in Hoboken. This continuous paved promenade runs the entire length of the city along the river, offering uninterrupted views of the Manhattan skyline, smooth pavement, and easy access to parks, piers, and cafes. If you ride a bike in Hoboken, this is your path.
How Far Is It?
The Hoboken segment of the Walkway runs roughly 2.5 miles from Pier A Park in the south to the 14th Street area in the north. It's flat end to end — Hoboken sits at sea level — and takes about 20 to 40 minutes to ride one way at a relaxed pace. The path is part of a larger vision for an 18.5-mile continuous waterfront route from the George Washington Bridge to Bayonne, and the Hoboken stretch is among the most complete and best-loved.
Where to Start
The most popular starting point is Pier A Park at the foot of First Street, where you'll find parking, restrooms, and a beer garden for a post-ride reward. From there, head north along the promenade past Sinatra Park, the Stevens Institute campus, and up to the 14th Street Viaduct. You can also start from Hoboken Terminal if you're arriving by PATH, ferry, or NJ Transit.
Tips for the Ride
The path is shared with pedestrians, joggers, and families, so ride at a courteous speed and use a bell. It's well-lit at night, making it a beautiful evening ride. Bring water on hot days — shade is limited along the open waterfront. And don't forget to stop and take in the skyline; that view never gets old.
