Spring in Hoboken means cherry blossoms on the side streets, the waterfront path filling up again, and the return of long, sunny rides. Before you dive back in, a quick tune-up of your bike and your habits will make the season smoother. Here's your checklist.
Tune Up Your Bike
If your bike sat all winter, give it a once-over. Check tire pressure (it's probably flat), inflate to the sidewall range, and inspect the tires for cracks or wear. Clean and lube the chain. Test the brakes and shift through all the gears. If anything's off, a spring tune-up at a local shop is a smart investment.
Check Your Gear
Inspect your helmet for cracks (replace if you crashed last season). Test your lights and charge them fully. Check your lock still works smoothly. Restock your flat-repair kit with a fresh tube and CO2.
Ease Back In
Don't jump straight into a 30-mile ride. Start with a few short waterfront spins to wake up your legs and reacquaint yourself with your bike. Build back your fitness gradually — the season is long.
Refresh Your Routes
Spring is a great time to try a new route. The Hoboken–Jersey City connector, the 14th Street viaduct climb, or a coffee-stop ride through Washington Street all shine in spring weather.
A little prep now means you'll spend the season riding, not fixing — and Hoboken in spring is worth riding every day.
