If you're ready to stretch your legs, the ride from Hoboken to Liberty State Park is one of the best long-distance waterfront rides in the New York metro area. It's almost entirely car-free, flat as a pancake, and ends with a view of the Statue of Liberty.

The Route

Start at the Hoboken/Jersey City border at the southern end of the Waterfront Walkway and follow the continuous riverside path south. You'll pass through Newport and Exchange Place, then pick up the Liberty State Park path. The full one-way ride is about 4 miles; figure 30 to 50 minutes at a relaxed pace, plus time to explore the park.

What You'll See

The Manhattan skyline stays with you the entire way, shifting from the Midtown towers to the Financial District and the harbor. At Liberty State Park, the view opens to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the mouth of the harbor — one of the great urban cycling vistas.

What to Bring

This is a long enough ride that you'll want two water bottles, a snack, sunscreen (the path is fully exposed), and a patch kit or pump. There are restrooms and food at the park. Plan to ride back or take the PATH from nearby Exchange Place if you want a one-way trip.

It's the ride that shows you just how connected the Hudson County waterfront really is — and why cyclists love it.
